GRCL Expands Processing Capacity in Kano State

A New Chapter for Northern Nigeria
Global Resources Citadel Limited has officially commenced operations at its new agro-processing facility in Kano State, marking a significant expansion of the Group’s processing capabilities in Northern Nigeria. The facility, which began receiving raw materials in early March, is expected to double GRCL’s current processing output within the first twelve months of operation.
The investment represents one of the largest private-sector commitments to agro-processing infrastructure in the region in recent years. With an initial workforce of over 200 employees drawn primarily from surrounding communities, the facility is already contributing to the local economy.
Strategic Rationale
The decision to expand in Kano State was driven by several factors. Northern Nigeria remains one of the country’s most productive agricultural zones, yet processing capacity has historically lagged behind raw output. This gap means that a significant proportion of agricultural produce is lost to spoilage or sold unprocessed at lower margins.
“By bringing processing closer to the source of production, we reduce post-harvest losses, increase the value of what our farmers grow, and create skilled employment opportunities in the communities where they are most needed.”
GRCL’s integrated model — connecting crop farming, animal husbandry, agro-processing, and commodity marketing under one corporate umbrella — means that the new facility slots directly into an existing supply chain. Raw materials flow in from the Group’s farming operations, and finished products are routed through its marketing and export channels.
What This Means for the Group
The Kano facility is the latest in a series of strategic investments that reflect GRCL’s commitment to building real, productive capacity across Nigeria’s agricultural value chain. With operations now spanning seven business divisions across three industry clusters, the Group continues to demonstrate that diversified, integrated business models can deliver both commercial returns and development impact.
Construction of a second phase, which will add cold storage and packaging lines, is expected to begin later this year.
